Game Day Review for August 9th, 2003
August 15, 2003 - Women's Professional Football League (WPFL)
Arizona Caliente News Release
No first game jitters here. The Caliente came out in top form, scoring on their first possession, and it was all uphill from there. The diversity of the offense was evident in having 6 separate players (#14 Reyes, #16 Saad, #22 Lewis, #28 Latta, #33 Calusine, #47 Jarabek) putting up points during the team's 45-0 victory. Of course even more impressive was the Caliente defense, able to hold the Amazons scoreless even after the Amazons got within 4 yards with 28 seconds left, and forcing the Amazon rushing to be an unbelievable 41 attempts for -26 yards.
Offensive Player of the Game: #61 Amy "A-Bomb" Arnold Defensive Player of the Game: #41 Kyi Drago

Game Day Preview for August 16th, 2003
The Arizona Caliente (1-0) take on the SoCal Scorpions (0-1) on Saturday, August 16th. The Caliente will be on the road at the Scorpions home field, Chaparral High School in Temecula, CA. The Scorpions, while a new team this season, rosters a fairly experienced group of veteran players who had played with the San Diego SunFire. Not truly a first year team, SoCal is led by the SunFire's former Head Coach, Mike Suggett, and his coaching staff. The Scorpions lose came in their first and only game so far this season against the LA Amazons, where the team was edged out 8-7. Game time is 7:00pm.
Who To Watch For
She's a Tight End/Wide Reciever/Back-up Quarterback/Special Teams Fill-In 3rd year Caliente player who can play almost any position on the field, and play it well; #18 Valerie Serpico. Serpico had a strong showing in the season opener against the Amazons, remaining a coach's favorite for possession receiving, and this utility player always gets her job done. Complimenting an already impressive defensive unit, is new-to-the-Caliente, and rookie player #91 Mia Porter. Porter may line up as defensive guard, but she doesn't stop there. In her first game of tackle football ever, against the Amazons, Porter not only snagged 3 tackles, but also found her way through to assist in a sack. These 2 players are the perfect example of the Caliente's power and determination - watch for them to make some crucial plays this season.
