Arizona Caliente team with YMCA Achievers to award scholarship

(Phoenix, AZ) - The Arizona Caliente, in conjunction with the YMCA Achievers Program, was proud to present a $500.00 Scholarship to Nayeli Castaneda. The award was presented at the Community Initiatives YMCA 7th Annual Achievers Banquet Friday night, May 14th, 2004.

YMCA Achievers is a unique program that works with businesses, schools and the community to encourage the educational and career objectives of high school students. YMCA Achievers is a partnership between Community Initiatives YMCA, corporate and community organizations, community members and youth.

Scholarship winner Nayeli Castaneda embodies the Caliente's commitment to empower women to break through societal barriers and live their dreams. Nayeli is a senior at South Mountain High School, and has a 3.7 GPA. She is currently in the National Honor Society and is also in the top ten percent of her class. Nayeli will be attending Glendale Community College immediately after graduation and plans to attend Arizona State University to continue her education in the medical profession.

In addition to other scholarships and service awards that were presented, Dorothy Shorter, Achievers Program Director, presented an award to Jennifer Cada and the Arizona Caliente in appreciation of their support.
