Arizona Caliente News Release

GLENDALE, ARIZONA --- Arizona Sting Head Coach and General Manager Bob Hamley announced Thursday the signing of forward Matt Brown to a one-year contract.

A standout at the University of Denver, Brown was taken in the first round (5th overall) by the Sting at the 2005 NLL Entry Draft.

"Matt is an outstanding young athlete and we expect him to make an immediate impact on our team," Hamley said. "He's really strong on his feet and will add some scoring punch to the left side of our attack. He's also been a winner everywhere he's played, so being able to add a guy like that to your line-up is a great thing."

As a member of the University of Denver Pioneers, Brown led his team in scoring every season he played there from 2002-2005. In 56 NCAA games, the 6'1", 210 lb. forward had 137 points (113G-24A). His 113 career goals place him fourth all-time in school history in that category.

Last season, Brown scored 35 goals (a career high), including two game winners, while playing in all 14 games for the Pioneers. He had six hat tricks on the season, including a six goal performance in one game against Sacred Heart on March 26, 2005.

A native of British Columbia, Brown is a three-time Minto Cup Champion as a member of the Burnaby Lakers of the BCJLA. In the 2004 Minto Cup Finals, Brown had 14 points (7G-7A) in only two games as his team swept the Victoria Shamrocks to capture the title.

The Arizona Sting is a professional indoor lacrosse team playing in the National Lacrosse League (NLL). In only their second season in Arizona (after re-locating from Columbus, Ohio), the Sting finished the 2005 season with a 9-7 regular-season record prior to going on to win the West Division Championship before losing to the Toronto Rock in the Champion's Cup Final (NLL title game).
