Morning Skate

Top of the Mountain: The Mavericks and Oilers clash in a matchup of Mountain Division leaders, with Kansas City and Tulsa sitting near the top of the division. Kansas City is the Mountain leader in point percentage (.821) and the Oilers just three points back of Utah (27) in point total on the year. The Mavericks have largely built their impressive start against divisional teams, owning a 10-2-1-0 record against Mountain opponents on the year entering today's game.

We Know You: These are two similarly-built teams that have nearly identical rankings thus far on the year. Kansas City is at the top of the league in goals for and goals against (fourth and fifth, respectively), but so is Tulsa (10th and sixth). Same can be said for shots for and shots against per game (KC is fourth and 10th, respectively, Tulsa first and sixth). Neither team takes many penalties - the Mavericks with the fourth-lowest penalty minute total in the league, the Oilers with the second-lowest - and each squad has the exact same home and away penalty kill percentages (home - 78.9, road - 83.3).

Old Time Hockey: David Dziurzynski recorded a Gordie Howe Hat Trick in the Mavericks' game against Wichita Friday, recording a goal, an assist and a fight in a 4-2 divisional win. He has posted strong efforts in back-to-back games, hitting the score sheet in each with a shootout winner last Saturday against the Thunder.

Mase On The Case: Mason McDonald has been unbeatable this season - literally - the lone goalie with an unblemished record and more than four starts on the year. McDonald is 7-0 with a 2.23 GAA and .916 SVP, a strong start to the year for the Calgary Flames' 2014 second-round pick.

Player To Watch: Darian Dziurzynski. The younger of the Dziurzynski brothers has elevated his game of late, entering Sunday's contest at Tulsa with eight points (4g,4a) in the team's last six games. Last time out, Dziurzynski recorded two helpers to help the Mavericks earn a 4-2 win over Wichita Friday night at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena.
