Game Day Preview

December 7, 2002 - Women's Professional Football League (WPFL)
Arizona Caliente News Release

This will be the first meeting of the 2 teams this season, however the Caliente and the Sirens did play a game during last year's regular season play. That game last season, which was also played in Sacramento, was extremely physical and both teams were extremely strong, but in the end, the Caliente were victorious over the Sirens with a score of 18-15. It was winning that game against the Sirens that earned the Caliente their birth to last year's WAFL playoffs. The Sirens then lost in the first round of playoffs to the California Quake (who went on to win the Championship), and so while the Caliente moved on to the Pacific Championship game, the Sirens would not have the opportunity to face the Caliente again and gain redemption during last year's post-season. Both teams have have dominated on the field this season, with the Sirens being undefeated and the Caliente having only 1 loss. To note however, the Caliente's loss came from the Hawaii Legends in Hawaii, which was a trip the Sirens did not have to take this year. The game itself will definitely differ from last season as both teams have added depth and diversity to their squads, but the match-up will certainly be as intense. Ending the Fall WAFC season, the Sirens remain ranked #1 Offensively, while the Caliente rank #1 Defensively. This will be a true game of heart and will - may they best team win.
