Game Day: Lawton-Fort Sill Cavalry at at Rochester RazorSharks

This is the third meeting between the former two time Premier Basketball League champion RazorSharks and the defending champions from Lawton-Fort Sill. The Cavalry won the first two games, the last coming in Rochester just thirteen days ago in overtime.

The RazorSharks (6-7) have won four of five games to climb back into the PBL playoff race. All five games were at home. The only defeat came to the Cavalry in overtime February 21.

Forward Eric Walton scored 20 points in each of the two previous meetings. Mike Williams rebounded 15 in the overtime loss.

In six games playing together, newcomers Williams and Sammy Monroe have yet to lose a game in regulation for the RazorSharks. Monroe has averaged a team leading 16.8 points per game since returning to the Sharks.

Rochester defeated Saint John 110-108 on Thursday to climb to within 1 1/2 games of the Mill Rats for the fourth PBL playoff spot. Jerice Crouch scored 7 points and stole an inbounds pass in the final minute to preserve the victory.

The Sharks are 5-2 at home with both losses coming in overtime. They're 1-5 on the road. Four of Rochester's final five games are away.

The Cavalry (12-1) have won six straight games since losing at Quebec back on January 30. Since beating Rochester the Cavalry defeated Dayton 111-93 at home.

In that game, Lawton coach Michael Ray Richardson dismissed DeAndre Thomas at halftime.

Eddie Smith leads LFS in scoring with 13.7 points per game. The Cavs have seven players (including the departed Thomas) averaging between 10 and 14 points. Elvin Mims leads the team in rebounds, steals and blocked shots.

As a team LFS continues to lead the league in scoring offense, fields goal percentage offense and field goal percentage defense. The Cavs are second in scoring defense. Their average scoring margin is +12.08. That's 8 1/2 point better than runner up Quebec.

Of note: LFS is unbeaten in two years playing at home in the PBL. The Cavalry is 19-0 at the Great Plains Coliseum. Rochester is at Lawton March 18.

Of note: These teams drew over 92 hundred fans to their game in Rochester last week. It is the single game league high this year.

Of note: Rochester and Lawton-Fort Sill have combined to win all three Premier Basketball League championships. The teams played for the title last year with the Cavalry winning the series two games to one.

Of note: Halifax (8-6) split two games against Quebec (9-5) Saturday. The Kebs won the completion of a suspended game. The Rainmen were two points better in the regularly scheduled contest. Halifax along with Saint John stay a game up in the loss on Rochester.
