
Gamblers Win a Shootout Thriller

The Green Bay Gamblers won in dramatic fashion on Friday at the Resch Center with a 6-5 shootout win over Team USA. The win was the Gamblers sixth in their last seven games. The Gamblers own the second best winning percentage (.690) in the USHL with a mark of 19-8-2.
Green Bay jumped out to a 1-0 lead at the 9:48 of the 1st period on Owen Murray's first career USHL goal.
Mason Lohrei (6:13) and Ryan Greene (9:18) tallied 2nd period goals to build the Gamblers lead to 3-0.
After USA got on the board at the 9:39 mark of the 2nd, the Gamblers regained their three-goal advantage on a Victor Mancini goal (13:33).
USA scored in the final seconds of the 2nd period and in the opening minute of the 3rd period to make it a one goal game.
Lohrei tallied his second of the game at the 1:17 mark of the third to make it a 5-3 game.
USA scored at 9:53 and with the goalie pulled for the extra attacker got the equalizer at the 18:34 mark to send the game to overtime.
The Gamblers got a late power play in the overtime, but could not solve USA goaltender Kaiden Mbereko, who made 23 saves in the game.
Gamblers goaltender Matt Davis turned aside seven of the eight shooters in the shutout. Lohrei, who was the second shooter tied the shootout at 1-1. The game-winner would come in the 8th round when Kyler Grundy found the back of the net.. Davis finished the game with 36 saves.
The two teams meet again tomorrow as the Gamblers host their annual Military Appreciation Night. Start time is 7:05 PM. Tickets available at the Resch Center box office or online at gamblershockey.com Box office opens at 10:00 AM.
