
Galaxy travel to France for three preseason matches

CARSON, CA (Friday, February 20, 2004) - The Los Angeles Galaxy will depart for France next Monday, February 23, as they continue their preparations for the upcoming 2004 Major League Soccer regular season. In all the club will spend eleven days in Sainte-Maxime, France, playing at least three matches against prominent French club sides before returning home to Los Angeles on Thursday, March 11.
"This trip provides us with a great opportunity to play some highly-competitive games as we build up to the 2004 season," said Galaxy President/General Manager Doug Hamilton. "We are looking forward to evaluating our squad after getting further game results under our belt. We will also be evaluating some very interesting trial players during this trip."
After arriving in France on Tuesday, February 24, the Galaxy play their first match in Europe on Wednesday, February 25. The club will face French second division leaders AS Istres in a midweek clash. Istres are atop the table on 47 points through 24 matches, five points clear of Amiens and Saint Etienne who sit in a tie for second place entering the weekend.
Following the match against Istres, the Galaxy will spend four days on the training pitches of Southern France before playing the second game of the tour on March 1. Either Cannes, Toulon, or the reserve team of AS Monaco will be the Galaxy's competition for this game.
The Galaxy will conclude their tour match schedule against a first division team, OGC Nice. Presently in the middle of the table in Le Championnat, they have captured the Coupe de France three times, most recently in 1997.
Los Angeles Galaxy tickets are now on sale for the 2004 season at The Home Depot Center. The club will open their ninth season in MLS with a match against the New England Revolution at 7 pm (PT) on Saturday April 3, 2004.
