WAPPINGERS FALLS, NY - The Hudson Valley were held to only five hits, and Lowell first baseman Devlin Granberg pounded out four hits as the Spinners easily defeated the Renegades 8-0 Tuesday afternoon at Dutchess Stadium.
The scoring started in the first for Lowell. Second baseman Grant Williams started the game with a walk. He went to second on a single to center from leftfielder Lane Milligan. After a fly out moved him to third, Williams scored on a groundout short by first baseman Devlin Granberg to give Lowell a 1-0 lead.
The Spinners added to their lead in the second when with two out third baseman Xavier LeGrant blasted a two-run homerun over the left-centerfield wall to make the score 3-0. The homer was his second of the season.
Lowell used the long ball again to extend their lead in the fifth as centerfielder Jarren Duran lifted a solo homer over the rightfield wall to make it 4-0. It was Duran's second homerun of the season.
The visitors would then put the game to bed with a three-run seventh inning. Lowell strung together four doubles with RBI coming from Milligan, first baseman Devlin Granberg, and designated hitter Kole Cottam to give the Spinners a 7-0 lead.
Lowell added one more run in the ninth as an RBI single from Cottam capped the scoring.
Getting the win for the Spinners was Hunter Haworth who came on in relief and tossed five shutout innings while striking out seven on two hits. The loss fell to Renegades starter Michael Mercado (1-1) after he gave up four runs on five hits in 4.1 innings.
Nobody had more than one hit for Hudson Valley. The Spinners, meanwhile, had 12 hits as Granberg finished 4-5 with two doubles, a run and a RBI. Cottam finished 2-5 with a double and two RBI, while Milligan chipped in by going 2-5 with a double, run and RBI.
The Renegades their three-game series and homestand against the Spinners tomorrow beginning at 7:05. Righty Nick Padilla (2-3, 2.38 ERA) will take the hill for Hudson Valley against Lowell right-hander Kevin Machamer (0-2, 3.52 ERA).
