Gélinas and Ouellet win TELUS player of the week awards

December 17, 2007 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) News Release

BOUCHERVILLE, Monday, December 17, 2007 - Cape Breton Screaming Eagles forward Dean Ouellet and PEI Rocket goaltender Marc-Antoine Gélinas today were named the TELUS offensive and defensive players of the week for the period extending from December 10 to 16. It is the second week in a row that Gélinas has captured defensive player of the week honours.

In two road starts, Gélinas helped the Rocket earn four points in the Eastern division standings by registering two wins while posting a 2.50 goals-against-average and .955 save percentage. He faced an incredible total of 110 shots over that span. In the first of his two appearances, the Rocket backstop made 48 saves in a 3-1 win over the torrid Drakkar offence. Then, in Quebec City, he stopped 57 shots in a 5-4 victory over the Remparts. Gélinas was named the game's first star in both contests. He now has eleven wins since the start of the 2007-08 campaign.

Goaltenders Kevin Maletto (2-1-1; 125 MIN; 1.44 GAA; .944 SAV %) of Shawinigan and Peter Delmas (3-0-0; 180 MIN; 1.67 GAA; .935 SAV %) of Lewiston as well as defenseman Marc-André Bourdon (0-6-6; +3) of Rouyn-Noranda were also considered.

The offensive player of the week award goes to Dean Ouellet of the Screaming Eagles. In two games, Ouellet scored three goals on fifteen shots, including a game-winner, and added two helpers in two Cape Breton wins. He enjoyed his best game of the week on Friday versus the St. John's Fog Devils as he registered four points in a 4-3 victory. Ouellet was later named the game's first star. The Screaming Eagles' forward was also a beast in the face-off circle, winning 71.1% of his draws.

Dany Massé (2-4-6) of Acadie-Bathurst, Maxime Tanguay (3-2-5) of Rimouski and Robert Slaney (1-4-5) of Cape Breton were also considered.
