
G-Braves hold on for 8-7 win at Durham

The Lead: The Gwinnett Braves end the Durham Bulls eight-game winning streak with an 8-7 win in game two of the four game series Saturday night at Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, North Carolina. It's also the Braves first win of the year against the Bulls in four tries. The Bulls still lead the International League South with a 13-and-4 mark. The win ups the Braves to 7-and-10 and six games in back of the Bulls in the division.
It Was Over When: Braves centerfielder Gregor Blanco singled to left with two outs and runners on the corners in the top of the eighth. The hit, the third of the night for Blanco, scores Brent Clevlen from third and give the Braves an 8-5 lead. The Bulls score two in the bottom of the inning off of Craig Kimbrel to cut the lead to 8-7, but Mariano Gomez pitches a scoreless ninth for Gwinnett to secure the win and pick up his first save of the season.
Braves Beat: On the Mound: Chris Resop (1-1) started for the Braves and got his first win of the season: His line: 5.0 IP, 7H, 2R/ER, 1BB, 5K'S. Jeff Lyman replaced Resop to begin the 6th and is wild: 0.0 IP, 3R/ER, 3 BB. Cory Gearrin worked two innings: 2.0 IP, 2H, 0R/ER, 1BB, 2K. Craig Kimbrel gave up his first ever runs in Triple A: 1.0 IP, 2H, 2R/ER, 1BB, 1K. Mariano Gomez: 1.0 IP, 2H, 0R/ER, 1K.
At the plate: The Braves banged out double-digit hits (10) for the third game in a row. Brandon Hicks hit his first ever homer in Triple-A. He went 3-for-4, with a homer, double, single and 3 RBIs. Gregor Blanco got his first homer of the season. He went 3-for-5 with 2 RBIs. Freddie Freeman is 2-for-4 with an RBI and his first triple of the year.
Bulls Beat: On the Mound: Heath Phillips started and got the loss to move his record to 1-and-1. His line: 6.0 IP, 6H, 6R/4ER, 2BB, 4K. Joe Bateman worked the seventh and eighth: 2.0 IP, 4H, 2R/ER, 1BB, 0K. Winston Abreu pitched the ninth: 1.0 IP, 1K.
At the plate: Angel Chavez hit safely in his 11th straight game with a 3-for-3 night and 1 RBI. Justin Ruggiano is 1-for-4 with a solo homer to up his hitting streak to 10 games. Hank Blalock went 2-for-4 with a double. He is also on a 10-game hitting streak.
On Deck: The Braves and the Bulls play game three of the four-game series in Durham tomorrow night at 5:05 p.m. Braves RHP Todd Redmond (2-1, 1.69 ERA) is scheduled to make his fourth start of the season. The Bulls will counter with RHP Aneury Rodriguez (1-0, 0.00 ERA).
