Futures League Set to Open 2014 Season

June 4, 2014 - Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL)
Old Orchard Beach News Release

Wednesday marks the 4th season of the Futures Collegiate Baseball League and with it comes some news that everyone can get excited about.

As a league, Futures Baseball has shown exponential growth every year. This year will bring in a total crowd over 200,000 fans. Once that number is reached, the Futures League will have accrued attendance of over 600,000 in 4 years.

Baseball is back in Worcester. The Bravehearts are set to take over in a city that desperately needs a baseball team again. Their new General Manager, Dave Peterson, has embraced the new position full on and is poised to take this team to the next level. From kids club and birthday parties, to Jake the Lion, there is something for everyone. And did we mention there is a club full of talented athletes ready to take home the championship title?

The Futures League has had great success with its players and the Major League Draft. In only its 3rd year (2013), we were proud to announce that 12 of our players had been drafted into the major league. What better way to say to your friends "I saw him when" than to attend games at any one of our ten professionally built and run stadiums. On opening night, pitcher Austin DeCarr for the Marha's Vineyard Sharks will be touting his stuff for all to see. He has been highly regarded as one of the Major League's top prospects and will give fans just a taste of his talent and what's to come this summer.

Also, in what can be called the greatest promotion the League has seen since its formation, the Brockton Rox are offering a prize like no other. New owner, Chris English, is giving one lucky fan an opportunity at $5,000; that is, if that opportunity presents itself. If a Rox batter, in the leadoff spot, during the 3rd inning, at a home game, hits a home run, one fan will be given a prize of $5,000. Let's see the home team try and achieve that goal this summer.

Features from Opening Weekend around the league:

The Nashua Silver Knights are excited to welcome a very special guest on Sunday, June 8th at Holman Stadium. The 2012 Olympic Gold Medalist Aly Raisman will be at the Silver Knights game for a ceremonial pitch and signing autographs. The Knights will also be displaying the Red Sox World Series trophies and will have a fireworks display. There will be a ceremony to commemorate their late pitching coach, Tom Bowles.

The Torrington Titans are announcing the grand opening of the Fuessenich Park Hall of Fame to commemorate their 95th Anniversary

The Seacoast Mavericks are hosting a Police and Fire Personnel Night; all employees of a Fire or Police Department will receive free admission to that game

The Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide have a packed Opening Weekend that features Hot 104.7 LIVE at the game on June 4th, followed by a fireworks presentation. June 5th is the ballpark's 30th Birthday Party which kicks off by having the North Shore Navigators GM Bill Terlecky throwing out the first pitch

The North Shore Navs have a special guest throwing out their first pitch; Head Baseball Coach at North Reading High, Frank Carey. Coach Frank is retiring after serving 49 years as the head coach at North Reading High; he holds the record for high school victories at 729 and counting!

The Brockton Rox and the Pittsfield Suns will have an impressive fireworks display on Friday, June 6th

Summer baseball is set to kickoff and with each year of the Futures League, there is something new and exciting for all. Will Martha's Vineyard repeat as Champions? Will Nashua add to their already impressive resume? Or will there be a new victor to add to the record books? All this and more begins on June 4th with all 10 teams in action.
