Amherst College (Mass.) outfielder Mike Odenwaelder was recently announced as the repeat Player of the Year award recipient for the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC). A Goshen native, Odenwaelder has played his summer baseball for the Titans since 2012. Odenwaelder, a junior, is the first player in league history to repeat as Player of the Year in consecutive seasons. The award is voted on by conference coaches.
In addition to being named Player of the Year, Odenwaelder was selected to the All-NESCAC First Team for the third consecutive season. Odenwaelder, the 2013 NESCAC Rookie of the Year, lead the league with 63 hits and 98 total bases. He is among the conference leaders in several other categories with seven home runs (T-2nd), 38 runs (4th), 15 stolen bases (5th), a .380 batting average (5th) and a .590 slugging percentage (8th). Defensively, he recorded 118 putouts and eight assists with one error committed in the outfield. Â
The Jeffs finished second in the NESCAC West Division standings, compiling a record of 9-3 in divisional play and 26-13 overall record before earning a runner-up finish at the NESCAC Championship and their second straight at-large bid into the NCAA Championship. They finished their season with a 27-15 record. Â
This second consecutive Player of the Year award comes after being named the 2014 Futures Collegiate Baseball League MVP.
