Real Maryland Monarchs News Release
York, PA - Over the past weekend, the Real Maryland U17 Boys claimed the Northeast Championship at the Regional Championships held in York, PA. On their way to playing Pittsburgh in the Championship game, the team had to beat a very talented team from New England in the semifinals with a 4-3 overtime victory.
Riding the victory wave, the Monarchs then faced Pittsburgh in the Championship where they finished out the tournament with a 5-4 victory and brought home the trophy. The win at the Regional Championships now qualifies Real Maryland FC to play in the National Tournament to be held in Long Beach, California from July 8 - 11, 2010.
All the players should be commended for their play over the weekend, but three top players that stood above and led the team were Jose Bibiano, Henry Lopez and Chris Maddes.
Futsal is the way the world plays indoor soccer. It is played on all the continents of the world in over 100 countries by more than 12 million players.
Futsal is played on a basketball-size court. It can be played on a variety of surfaces. The game does not require the use of expensive dasher board - walls, as do other versions of indoor soccer.
Without the walls, futsal is a great skill-developer, demanding quick reflexes, fast thinking, and pin-point passing. It is an exciting game for children as well as adults.
Great soccer superstars such as Pele, Zico and Socrates grew up playing the game and credit Futsal with developing their skills. Futsal is played with a special low bounce ball, requiring players to use their skills, rather than the ball's bounce, to propel it.
The USFF sponsors futsal league play throughout the United States with leagues designed for beginners as well as premier players of all ages. We invite everyone to take the opportunity to play and enjoy the great sport of futsal. Once you try it you'll never want to stop!
Real Maryland FC participates in the Second Division Professional League, the Super 20 League and the Super Y League of the United Soccer Leagues. All 2009 Regular Season Home Games will be played at Lester Stadium at Richard Montgomery High School in Rockville, MD.
