Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release

MUSKEGON, MI.--- Embarking on their 14th season as a member of the United Hockey League, the winningest team in league history and the two-time reigning Colonial Cup Champions, the Muskegon Fury, in conjunction with the UHL, have unveiled their pre-season and regular season schedules for the 2005-06 league-title defending season. Having captured custody of four Colonial Cup crowns through the past six calendar years, the Fury will participate in a schedule consisting of 76-games spread over 27-weeks spanning from opening night, Saturday night, October 22, 2005 through the regular season finale of Saturday, April 15, 2006.

It is yet another outstanding game schedule for Muskegon; in fact, it may be deemed one of the best ones ever in the rich, tradition-steeped franchise history under the banner of the Fury. For all local denizens of the Muskegon commun-ity and the greater Lakeshore area, the "Furious Ones" schedule is a most attractive one with immense fan appeal. Once again, the Fury will be presenting top choice, premium home dates for the upcoming campaign as they seek to become the first team ever to claim the coveted Colonial Cup crown coronation for a third consecutive campaign. To elaborate and elucidate, 37 of the Fury's 38-home dates at L.C. Walker Arena have been designated as either prime-time weekend dates and/or holiday vacation time with the one other date being introduced as a Fury "School Day Game."

Included in this season's Fury home schedule of dates, specifically, are 18-SATURDAY NIGHTS; 14-FRIDAY NIGHTS and 3-SUNDAY MATINEE GAMES. There are two more dates during the holiday season on the Muskegon docket; the annual, traditional Thanksgiving night home appearance on THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 24TH and the Christmas vacation date of TUESDAY, DECEMBER 27TH.

For the first time in Fury franchise history, and for that matter, the 46-year history of Muskegon pro hockey, the Fury organization will introduce a special "Kids School Day Game" with the Fury. This home day date is set for TUES-DAY, JANUARY 10TH AT 11:00 AM AT WALKER ARENA against the divisional rivals, Flint Generals.

The Fury will actually launch the defense of their third championship in the last four years on home ice, SATURDAY NIGHT, OCTOBER 22ND AT 7:30 PM against the Eastern Division rivals, the Elmira Jackals. Muskegon's home opening night extravaganza will include the raising of the three newest championship banners earned during the past 2004-05 season; the Central Division, Tarry Cup and Colonial Cup titles. In addition, the Champions will be presented their championship rings in one final celebration of Colonial Cup IV.

Game times for the Fury home action this year will be set at 7:30 pm for all games scheduled Monday through Saturday nights, excluding the special January 10th date. All Sunday games will be on the docket for 2:00 pm matinee affairs.

Once again, in 2005-06, the Fury will compete in the Michigan-based Central Division comprised of member clubs, the Flint Generals, Kalamazoo Wings, Motor City Mechanics and the new entry, Port Huron Flags. The Fury will engage in combat 38-times with their intra-divisional rivals with 19 games at home and 19-more on the road. Musk-egon will collide 27-times with Western Division competition; namely the Fort Wayne Komets, Missouri River Otters, Quad City Mallards and Rockford IceHogs. There are 11-dates against the Eastern Division of the Adirondack Frost-bite, Danbury Trashers, Elmira Jackals, Richmond RiverDogs and Roanoke Valley Vipers, (formerly Port Huron Beacons).

The Fury will be fostering arch-rivalries as they will be clashing with nearby Kalamazoo the most number of times, 11, with 6 of those at home and 5 on the road. The debuting Port Huron club appears on the Muskegon slate 10-times, including 6-assignments abroad while the Fury list 9-dates with Motor City (5-home, 4-away) and 8-dates with Flint, (4-home, 4-away).

In the Western Division, the Fury meet Rockford for 8-battles, (5-home, 3-away); Fort Wayne 7-times, (4-home, 3-away); Quad City 6-games, (3-home, 3-away); Missouri 6-games, (2-home, 4-away).

The most ambitious months for Head Coach Todd Nelson's "Team Title" will be December and March with 14-games for the final month of the calendar year; (6-home, 8-away); and 15 on the slate for March 2006, (7-home, 8-away). Muskegon will play its most home games in February with 8 with the most foreign ice expeditions scheduled in December and March.

The inception of the new schedule is a most favorable one for the Fury as they play their initial 5-games at the friendly climes and environs of home ice before punctuating and culminating the regular season with a schedule heavily-weighted toward foreign ice warfare. The Fury will be on the road for their final 3-games; 5 of their last 6 and 7 of the last 10-games.

There will be 14-times during the regular phase in which the Fury will be confronted with the daunting assignment consisting of 3-games in 3-night. Six times, they will face 4-games in 5-days.

With today's announcement, the Fury have also solidified a three-games' pre-season schedule which will feature clashes against nearby, neighborhood Michigan opponents. Their pre-season slate will be broached, WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 12TH on home ice against Kalamazoo followed by a home-and-home series against Motor City on THURSDAY, OCTOBER 13TH in Detroit and then back home SATURDAY, OCTOBER 15TH against the same Mechanics squad.
