Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Muskegon Fury again took the Fort Wayne Komets to the limit, tying up the score in the third period, but Fort Wayne answered 33 seconds later with a David Huckalo goal then added an empty-netter for the 6-4 victory Saturday.
The victory is the 24th straight at home for Fort Wayne. The Fury got on the board first thanks to a four-minute power play after Philippe Plante was the victim of a high stick. Mark Cadotte put the goal in the net for the Fury 3 minutes and 12 seconds into the game, with assists from Kyle Kos and Rafal Martynowski. The Komets tied the game up 12:52 into the contest when Konstantin Shafranov scored while trailing on the breakaway to tie the game at 1-1.
In the second period, the Komets scored three consecutive goals to take a 4-1 lead. Colin Chaulk make it 2-1 at 7:37 of the period, then one minute later, Evgeny Saidachev made it 3-1. A power play goal from Huckalo at 10:55 gave the Komets a three-goal lead, but the Fury began to chip away. Billy Collins scored his 31st of the season unassisted, winning the faceoff in the Komet zone and scoring past Kevin Reiter to make it 4-2 with 4:18 left in the period. With 2.8 seconds left in the period, Dan Riedel took a feed in front of the Komet net and made it 4-3. Adam Bartholomay and Martynowski assisted on the goal, Riedel's 26th of the year. The goal extends Riedel's point streak to 12 straight games.
Riedel evened the contest at 4-4 on the power play 37 seconds into the third, with assists to Plante and Collins, but the Komets came right back with the goal from Huckalo and never relinquished the lead.
Clayton Pool made 34 saves in net for Muskegon, which falls to 32-31-3-2 on the season. Muskegon hosts Kalamazoo Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m.
