
Fury Charging on, signs pro star Ferdinand

The Tennessee Fury have added yet another superb player to an already excellent front line. Marie Ferdinand, of the WNBA's San Antonio Silver Stars, will take her game to the NWBL's Tennessee Fury for this upcoming season. Ferdinand, who is a graduate of LSU, was the 8th overall pick in the 2001 WNBA draft. While in college, Ferdinand was a 2001 Kodak All-American and was named to the First-Team All SEC. She was also nominated as a finalist for the Naismith Award and a finalist for ESPN The Magazines shooting guard of the year in 2001. She is one of three Louisiana State players to reach 1500 points, 500 rebounds, 300 assists and 200 steals in her career. She is LSU's all time leading scorer in NCAA tournament history. Last season she averaged 15.4 points per game while chipping in 3 rebounds and 3 assists. When asked about the signing, General Manager Ryan McCallum said "We are continuing to bring in some of the best players from around the country, Marie will make a great addition to the team."
With training camp already underway the Fury will continue to bring in players for the upcoming season. On Saturday February 1, everyone is invited to come and meet the players of East Tennessee's newest professional basketball team as they approach the beginning of the season. Don't miss the excitement as the Fury tips off an exciting season of women's professional basketball at Maryville College. Former UT stars, Semeka Randall and Shalon Pillow along with Becky Hammon will go up against a potent Springfield Spirit team made up of such notables as Sue Bird, Swin Cash, Rebecca Lobo and Kara Wolters, next Tuesday February 4th at Maryville College.
