Ontario Fury News Release
The Ontario Fury, Driven by Mark Christopher Chevrolet, got a 21-save performance from goaltender Sanaldo, but could not stop a late set play as the San Diego Sockers defeated the Fury 4-3 Saturday night at Valley View Casino Center.
Matt Clare scored off a free kick pass from Enrique Tovar with 4:02 remaining to break a 3-3 tie, after the Sockers had battled back from a 3-2 fourth quarter deficit in front of the home crowd in San Diego.
Ontario had taken a 2-1 lead after the first quarter, as Luan Sales Oliveira opened the scoring 2:58 into the game, and Robert Tornel scored unassisted just 34 seconds after Angel Ruiz had tied the game for the Sockers. It was Tornel's first game of the season.
Clare tied the game in the second quarter. And Sanaldo kept the Fury in the game, stopping a penalty shootout attempt by Kraig Chiles with 14 seconds remaining in the half.
After a scoreless third period, Mauricio Salles gave the Fury the lead 2:34 into the final quarter. But Tovar tied it midway through the period, setting up Clare's game-winner.
The Fury are off until 7 p.m. Wed., Jan. 6, when they return to Citizens Business Bank Arena to take on the Milwaukee Wave. Tickets for the game are on sale now at the Citizens Business Bank Arena box office and online at AXS.com.
