OAK BLUFFS, Mass. - The Martha's Vineyard Sharks completed a season sweep of the Worcester Bravehearts with a commanding 7-1 victory July 29 at Vineyard Baseball Park in Oak Bluffs, Mass.
Sharks starter Nick Fuller allowed only one hit and struck out seven Bravehearts in eight scoreless innings pitched.
Fuller received plenty of run support, as his teammates jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning. Left fielder Luck Bonfield cleared the bases with a 3RBI double in the opening frame. The incoming freshman at the University of Arkansas led the Sharks at the plate, as he went a perfect 4-4 in the game.
The Sharks combined for 13 hits in the winning effort.
Marlboro, Mass., native Charlie Butler got the start but was charged with the loss, as he allowed four runs on seven hits in just three innings of work.
Martha's Vineyard added to its lead in the seventh inning with three runs off Worcester reliever David Montiverdi. After third baseman Will Toffey scored on a passed ball, right fielder Kevin Foley hit a 2RBI single to make it 7-0 Sharks. Foley finished 2-4 in the contest.
Worcester avoided a shutout with an RBI double by third baseman Dylan Harris to score left fielder Ian Strom in the ninth inning.
The 26-19 Bravehearts will return home for Bark at the Park night, which features a doubleheader against the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs beginning at 5 p.m. July 30 at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field.
