Reading Express News Release
Reading, PA - February 17, 2012 "Boom baby, Boom!" was the saying that second year Reading Express line backer, Mike Dell, repeated getting the team amped up for a new day of practice, and of course, it was the sound that continued to echo in the practice field.
The Reading Express began its training camp last Saturday and the team is really coming together to send this train off in the right direction.
"Camp is wonderful," head coach Mark Steinmeyer said, "We have a lot of talented players and they are very energetic and receptive to what we are coaching them to do."
This was evident during the inter-squad scrimmage that the team held for practice last night. Players were motivated, excited, and cooperative with not only the coaches, but with each other as well.
"The guys that [Steinmeyer] has brought in are really meshing well," said returning running back and wide receiver Elliott White. The Express is most like a freight train on the loose, speed is proving to be a major strength for this team. "Speed, speed, speed," Steinmeyer said, "We're fast on the defensive run, with our secondary and our linebackers. We brought in a lot of new talent from the receiver stand point and the quarterback. The guys are working really hard and there is just a lot of speed on both sides of the ball."
All of the players were practicing with so much intensity setting the tone for the next couple of days to come when the team must go from a 40 plus man roster down to 27, and with all of the talent on the field, it's not going to be easy.
"As in the past, it's going to be the same in the future," Dell said, "It's going to be an intense game. Arena football, in general, is an intense game, but I think the Reading Express organization has a way of bringing that intensity on game day and this team is just going to be another example of that." As with any scrimmage and game, not every player can be in on every play, but all of the guys were itching to get in to that scrimmage to prove they're a necessity to this new Express team.
