Bloomington Edge News Release
Bloomington, IL, 2/17/12 - The Bloomington Edge, presented by Heller Stores, signed former Illinois State University offensive lineman Keenan Wimbley this past week. Wimbley was a key member of ISU's football program for four years.
Although he played three of those years on the offensive line he started his football career on the defensive side. The position change came in his sophomore season. The move immediately paid off as he helped Cliffton Gordon rush for back-to-back 100+ yard games against Missouri State and Western Illinois.
During his junior and senior seasons he started every game at right guard. In his junior year the offensive line helped ISU throw for 4,279 yards, the eighth best all time in team history. The team was ultimately second best in the conference that season in passing. In his senior year he helped the offense rush for 183.4 yards per game and Ashton Leggett became the first Redbird running back with over 1,000 rushing yards since 2006. Also the offensive line only allowed six sacks on the season, which ranked No. 3 in the country.
Now that his playing career at ISU has come to an end, the Ocoee, FL native was extremely happy to find a spot with the Edge. "Being able to stay in the Bloomington-Normal area is huge for me since I am planning on attending graduate school at Illinois State this upcoming fall," said Wimbley, "I am really enjoying the opportunity to continue playing football, especially here in Bloomington/Normal. Being able to work for the athletic department at Illinois State while playing professional football is something I always hoped to be able to do."
Wimbley hopes that he can bring the same success to the Edge that the ISU offensive line had over the past few years. But success like that is based not only on hard work, but also teamwork. Wimbley already sees that moving in the right direction. "As a new member of the Edge, I was surprised to see the camaraderie that this team has. This team is a close group and I am honored to be a part of it."
