Fuel Announce 2017-18 Regular Season Schedule
May 16, 2017 - ECHL (ECHL)
Indy Fuel News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - The Indy Fuel, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Chicago Blackhawks and the AHL's Rockford IceHogs, announced
Tuesday their 72-game regular season schedule for the 2017-18 season. The Fuel begin their fourth ECHL season on the road with a Friday-Saturday doubleheader against the Wichita Thunder on Oct. 13-14, before welcoming the Tulsa Oilers to Indiana Farmers Coliseum for their home opener on Saturday, Oct. 21.
Indy will play a 72-game slate running from October to April, as the club hunts for its first trip to the Kelly Cup Playoffs after finishing sixth place in the Central Division in 2016-17. The Fuel will return to Indiana Farmers Coliseum at the Indiana State Fairgrounds for 36 home games, on top of hosting the 2018 CCM/ECHL All-Star Classic on Jan. 15.
The Fuel will spend some quality time in the Circle City over the first half of the season, with 16 of their 19 contests from Nov. 4 to Dec. 23 taking place on home ice - including an unprecedented 10-game homestand from Nov. 4 to Dec. 1. Indy will play five of its last six games at Indiana Farmers Coliseum, finishing the regular season with a Friday-Saturday-Sunday tripleheader from April 6-8.
Familiar opponents make up the majority of the Fuel's schedule, as 45 of their 72 games will be played against the six teams that made up the ECHL's Central Division last season. Indy will see the most out of the Quad City Mallards, with 11 games (5 home, 6 road) on the schedule, while meeting the Kalamazoo Wings 10 times (3 home, 7 road), the Fort Wayne Komets (6 home, 3 away) and Toledo Walleye (6 home, 3 away) nine times apiece, and Wichita (1 home, 2 road) and the Tulsa Oilers (2 home, 1 road) three times each. The Fuel will also continue their rivalry with the Cincinnati Cyclones, with a total of 10 matchups scheduled between the two teams (6 home, 4 away).
Notables on the road portion of the 2017-18 docket include a three game trip to Estero, Fla. for Indy's first encounter with the Florida Everblades since the 2014-15 season, and a New Year's Eve trip to West Virginia to take on the Wheeling Nailers. The Fuel embark on a season-long seven game swing away from Indianapolis from Feb. 9-18, part of a stretch that sees them play 10 of 11 on the road from Jan. 26 to Feb. 18.
Once again, the Fuel will be working weekends this season, with 57 of their 72 games falling on Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Indy will play three games in three nights on 10 different occasions throughout their schedule, in addition to five stretches of four games in five nights.
All weekday games (Tuesday through Thursday) at Indiana Farmers Coliseum will start at 7:05 p.m. Friday and Saturday night contests begin at 7:35 p.m., while Sundays feature a 3:05 matinee start. On Tuesday, Feb. 20, the Fuel will hold their first-ever school day game for local students, with puck drop scheduled for 10:30 a.m. All dates and times are subject to change.
