
Ftorek earns IHL honor

Bloomington PrairieThunder right wing Sam Ftorek has been named the International Hockey League's "Forward of the Week" for his performance in four games last week, league officials announced Monday.
Ftorek scored seven points during the week on four goals and three assists to increase his season total to 21, which ranks fifth in the league and second on the team behind Don Parsons' 24 points. Ftorek has scored 15 points over the last 10 games on nine goals and six assists.
He scored the second hat trick in franchise history in a 3-1 victory at Port Huron on Saturday. It also marked the second time this season that he has had the game-winning goal.
The Wolfeboro, N.H. native has scored at least one point in six straight games and in nine of the last 10 PrairieThunder contests. He has had six multi-point games, which leads the team.
Ftorek is tied for the league lead in goals scored with 14 and second on power play goals with five. Parsons leads the league with eight power play goals. Ftorek also leads the IHL in shots taken with 106 and has a .132 shooting percentage.
The 6-foot-2 Ftorek is tied for the league lead in short-handed goals with two. Meanwhile, defenseman Cory Laylin tops the league in power play assists with nine and ranks second among defenders with 17 points.
The PrairieThunder returns to the ice Friday with a 6:30 p.m. contest at Port Huron before returning home for a 7:05 p.m. game against Flint on Saturday. The team completes the week with a 3 p.m. date at Kalamazoo on Sunday.
Bloomington enters the week with a 9-12-2 record and 20 points. The PrairieThunder is first in road power plays with 12 on 77 chances for 19.5 percent. The team ranks second overall power plays at 18.2 percent.
