Elmira Jackals News Release
Elmira, NY - The Adirondack Frostbite overcame an early lead from the Elmira Jackals to sneak past their hosts 2-1 in the first game of the preseason Friday night at the First Arena.
Elmira jumped out to an early lead when newcomer Paul Falco lit the lamp five minutes and nine seconds into the game, assisted by Kevin Cooper and Tom Clayton. But Adirondack struck back with a pair of power play goals to steal the victory. First the Frostbite tied the game one minute and twenty-eight second later when Kevin Watters scored on the man-advantage at 6:37 of the first period from Nate Gagnon and Mike Berry. Ten minutes later it was Watters again scoring on the power play, this time at 16:20, assisted by former Danbury Trashers defenseman Pete Ollari.
The rest of the contest was dominated by the goaltenders. Starters Nick Boucher for the Jackals and Kris Tebbs for Adirondack shutout out the offense the rest of the game. Jackals goaltender Ryan McIntosh relieved Boucher for the third period and held the shutout.
Tebbs earned the win in goal for the Frostbite, stopping 40-of-41 Elmira shots, which Boucher shined in his debut for Elmira, but took the loss after making 15 saves on 17 Frostbite shots. McIntosh was a perfect 5-for-5 in the third period for Elmira.
The Jackals head northeast to Glens Falls Saturday night (October 15th) for the second leg of the Exhibition series with Adirondack. Face-off is set for 7:35 pm at the Glens Falls Civic Center. Jackals broadcaster Owen Newkirk will kick start the year Friday October 21st for the UHL season opener in Illinois as the Jackals take on the Rockford Ice Hogs.
Disney On Ice: 100 Years of Magic is coming to Elmira. They will be presenting all the magic of Disney on the First Arena ice starting October 19th and running through October 23rd. The Jackals will start the 2005-06 UHL regular season Friday October 21st in Illinois against the Rockford Ice Hogs.
