
Frost Heaves Make Late Plays to Win at Halifax

Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada-Dokun Akingbade slammed home two offensive rebounds on consecutive possessions in the final two minutes to boost the Vermont Frost Heaves to a 105-103 victory over the Halifax Rainmen at the Metro Centre Wednesday night.
Consecutive three-pointers from Terrance Green and Antonio Burks midway through the fourth quarter gave Vermont the lead it wouldn't relinquish, and Erik Nelson sank two free throws with 24 seconds to play to give the Frost Heaves their winning margin.
Five Vermont players scored in double figures, led by Issa Konare (19 points), Green and Burks (18 each, including four three-pointers each), Dwuan Rice (13) and Markus Austin (12). The Frost Heaves' bench poured in 61 points on the evening as the defending ABA Champs built their record to 8-2.
Eric Cruikshank led the Rainmen (2-8) with 22 points and 10 rebounds.
Vermont will visit the Boston Blizzard on Saturday, Dec. 15, before returning to the Green Mountain State the next day for a 4:05 p.m. date in Burlington's Memorial Auditorium with the Manchester Millrats, the No. 1 team in the ABA Power Rankings and the team that has tagged Vermont with both of its defeats this season. Several Frost Heaves players will appear at Apple Mountain Vermont Gifts on Church Street earlier that day, between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., to meet, greet and sign autographs.
