Vermont Frost Heaves News Release

South Burlington, VT - The Vermont Frost Heaves suffered their first defeat of the season at the hands of the Manchester Millrats 93-89. Joe Nixon missed a 3-point shot from the corner with 11 seconds left and the Frost Heaves could not corral the rebound, suffering their first setback of the season.

The Millrats held a slim 15-14 lead after a very sluggish first quarter for both teams, and then exploded in the second quarter and held a 47-29 lead at the end of the first half. The third quarter began with Manchester continuing the same pace and building a 22-point lead with about 8 minutes left in the quarter. The Frost Heaves slowly chipped away during the third quarter and the quarter ended with Manchester holding a 71-58 lead.

The Frost Heaves continued chipping away at the lead and with 9:43 left in the game had cut the lead to 71-65. John Williams sank a three point shot and Justin Herndon put a Frost Heaves miss back in to cut the Manchester lead to 73-70 with 5:05 remaining. An inbound steal by Chris Gaynor and two Benson Callier foul shots tied the game at 82-82 with 4:20 left in the game. A put back by Sam Carey made the score 84-83 and Manchester went back up by 4, 87-83 with 2:45 remaining. Vermont went up 89-87 on a John Williams three with 1:55 left and Sam Carey tied the game at 89 with 42 seconds left.

Salscheider then went back door off a Manchester timeout to put Manchester up 91-89. After Nixon's missed three pointer from the corner, Salscheider was fouled and made both shots for the final 93-89 score.

Vermont was lead by Benson Callier's 17 points followed by the trio of Joe Williams, Joe Nixon and Greg Stevenson who had 13 each. Manchester was lead by Keith Salscheider with 22 points followed by Sam Carey with 13 and Al Stewart with 12.
