WORLD SERIES-"TAR GATE"

I am surprised that no one in the recent World Series controversy over Tigers Pitcher Kenny Rogers having tar on his hand brought out the quotes from the scene in the 1989 movie Major League. Since no one has, I will refresh your memory.

Rookie Pitcher, Ricky Vaughn(Charlie Sheen): What's that crap on your chest?

Veteran Pitcher Eddie Harris: [wiping his finger across his chest] Crisco. Eddie Harris: [wiping it across his waist line] Bardol?

Eddie Harris: [wiping it along his head] Vagisil. Any one of them will give you another two to three inches drop on your curve ball. Of course if the umps are watching me real close I'll rub a little jalapeño up my nose, get it runnin', and if I need to load the ball up I just...

Eddie Harris: [wipes his nose] ...wipe my nose.

Rick Vaughn: You put snot on the ball?

Eddie Harris: I haven't got an arm like you, kid. I have to put anything on it I can find. Someday you will too.

LOST IN THE SHUFFLE

With the World Series here in town, not much attention is being cast toward the Missouri Tigers- Oklahoma Sooners match-up on Saturday. Those who know me, know that I am a dyed in the wool Oklahoma fan, but I am going to have to go against my raising, here and predict a Mizzou victory.

Anyone who knows me also knows I am not being politically correct, either. After having seen both play, I believe the Tigers are the better team. Both teams are fighting through a couple of key injuries, but I still look for the Tigers to prevail.

RAGE AND RAMS TEAM UP FOR EVENT

Players and staff members of the RiverCity Rage and the St. Louis Rams will join forces on Saturday, November 18 from 1-4:00 PM in the Jones Dome while participating in "Discovering Options" Field Day.

"Discovering Options" is a group that targets working with inner city and underprivileged children, but the event is open to all. The Rage players and staff will be running a punt, pass and kick competition.

Players interested in participating should contact the Rage office and get more details.

WITHIN A HAIR OF MAKING A TACKLE

Literally, KC running back Larry Johnson had his hands within Steeler Troy Polamalu's locks and brought him down. At that point, all was fine, until Johnson proceeded to help him up by that same hand full of hair.

My take is that if the hair is going to hang outside the helmet, to the point that it can be used as a tackling device, then either get it cut or wear a net that will pile it up under the helmet. We don't need schoolyard "hair pullings" in professional sports.

NEXT RAGE AUDITION

We will announce our next open tryout to fill roster spots for our 2007 training camp next week. It is tentatively planned for December 3 in the Family Arena in St. Charles, home of the Rage.

It will be for all roster positions, including kickers!

If you are interested in trying out, check out www.ragefootball.com. We will announce it there, first.

STILL TIME REMAINING FOR DISCOUNTS ON FAN WEAR

There is still some time left in this month to get half price discounts on Rage fan wear. Don't hesitate and miss out. The half price sale goes off at the end of this month.

We also have game worn jerseys and helmets available that make great gifts.

WHAT A DIFFERENCE A LEAGUE MAKES

Some fans have asked what will be the rule differences between the UIF and our former league. Here are the principle differences:

Only 2 players in motion prior to the snap, before we had 3.

21 man active roster, before we had 22

Linebackers stand at 4 yards as opposed to 5 before.

$25 per game "win bonus" for each active player, before we had none

QUOTE OF THE DAY

Any road will take you there, if you don't know where you are going.
