Rochester Knighthawks News Release
Pam Whitcomb may have never attended a Knighthawks game if it were not for meeting Pat O'Toole when she worked at a downtown hotel. O'Toole was about to play his first game for Rochester that night and invited her and her then-boyfriend to attend. She enjoyed the game so much that she decided to buy season tickets right after the game.
"I had a blast, it was so much fun," Whitcomb said. "There was so much going on that from then on I was hooked. I haven't missed a game since then."
Whitcomb's first game was in 1999. Sixteen years later, she is still a season ticket holder and has loved the ride. Her dedication to the organization earned her a visit from Brooksie during the first quarter of Saturday night's game to recognize her as the Season Ticket Holder of the Game. Brooksie presented her with a lacrosse stick from the team in front of 6,669 cheering fans.
"I think it's great. It's nice to be recognized because you don't always see that," Whitcomb said. " It's great they're appreciating individual fans who have been around for a long time ."
It's appropriate that the game she received the honor was against the Buffalo Bandits, considering her boyfriend, Jamie Bish - who she attends the games with - is a Bandits fan. W hitcomb and Jamie sit in Section 117. Lacrosse is what brought the couple together seven years ago when they met at a Bandits' postgame party in Buffalo.
"We go back and forth with pretty much everything," Whitcomb joked. "We have a lot of Rochester and Buffalo fans who are friends so it's a lot of fun during the games with them."
Normally, Whitcomb does not like being the center of attention, but sitting next to Buffalo fans as she was presented with the lacrosse stick made being on the video board very enjoyable.
"I think it's awesome. I'm not very good with being in front of people. It makes me a little nervous," Whitcomb admitted. "I'm here with a bunch of Buffalo fans, so it's kind of nice because it's like 'look, I'm the lone Knighthawks fan in my group of people and I'm the one getting recognized!"'
When Whitcomb is not able to attend a game with her boyfriend, she will bring her 13-year-old son Jacob, who jumps at every opportunity to attend a game. She knows Knighthawks games are a great place to bring kids to have a blast.
"It's always a lot of fun, my son has really gotten into it the past couple of years," Whitcomb, who has two boys, said. "He played for a year, it wasn't his thing, but he loves coming to the games. He's disappointed when he doesn't get to come.
"I was actually nine-months pregnant with Jacob when the Knighthawks had a home game on December 15th and Jake was born on the 17 th, but I still didn't miss a game that year. I haven't missed a home game since my first game in January 1999."
Pam calls that game her favorite memory as a Knighthawks fan and the reason she keeps coming back.
"That first game was so much fun and so fast-paced," she said. "I'm glad I gave it a try."
