Fritshaw nabs All-Rookie honor
April 17, 2007 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Rockford IceHogs News Release
Rockford, Ill.- The United Hockey League on Monday announced the 2006-07 All-Rookie Team and Rockford IceHogs defenseman Luke Fritshaw was named to the team. Fritshaw, considered a rookie this season despite playing in 59 games last season with the Long Beach Ice Dogs (ECHL), had a breakout season from the blueline.
The Tisdale, Saskatchewan native set an IceHogs single season record in '06-07 with a plus/minus rating of +34. Coincidentally, Fritshaw broke defenseman Matt Gens' record from a season ago when he accumulated a rating of +31 and was also named to the UHL's All-Rookie Team.
Overall, Fritshaw stacked up 6g-24a-30pts while playing in 75 of Rockford's 76 regular season games. The only game Fritshaw missed was due to his first career American Hockey League call-up when the Milwaukee Admirals used him on Friday, April 6.
Fritshaw is the third IceHogs defenseman to get named to the All-Rookie Team, joining Gens and Nick Angell (2002-03).
Next Home Game: Sunday, April 22 vs. Quad City Mallards (if necessary). Game time is 5:05 p.m. If Quad City wins either Games 3 or 4 in Moline, Ill. the series will return to the Rockford MetroCentre for Game 5.
