Cloutier and Mizzi's record setting campaigns earn UHL recognition
April 17, 2007 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Rockford IceHogs News Release
Rockford, Ill.- The United Hockey League continued to hand out its 2006-07 regular season awards on Tuesday and two more Rockford IceHogs skaters were recognized for their solid seasons. Rockford goalie Frederic Cloutier and center Preston Mizzi both were named 2006-07 UHL Second Team All-Stars.
Cloutier and Mizzi both set numerous IceHogs career and single season records in '06-07 and named Co-MVPs of the club. The last combo to get named to the UHL All-Star Team were defenseman Nathan Lutz and goalie Michel Robinson, both were first teamers in 2004-05.
As the primary backstop for the IceHogs, Cloutier set single season records for wins (39), save percentage (.921) and goals against average (2.30), the best single season any IceHogs goalie has ever had. After attending Vancouver Canucks (NHL) training camp in September, Cloutier came to Rockford for his first season with the UHL club. While with Rockford, Cloutier was named the UHL's Southern Sports Supply Goaltender of the Week a club record six times and Goaltender of the Month for February.
Cloutier's win total was second best in the UHL in '06-07, appropriately behind only First Team All-Star goalie Kevin St. Pierre (Fort Wayne). The St. Honore, Quebec native's goals against average and save percentage ranked him third in the league while his minutes played (3,491:58) were second most. Postseason accolades aren't anything new for Cloutier as he was named the ECHL's MVP, Rookie of the Year and Goaltender of the Year in 2001-02.
Mizzi skated in his second season with the IceHogs in '06-07. The Hogs centerman set Rockford's all-time career records for points (148) and goals (69). Despite playing in only 61 games this season due to AHL call-up (three to the Admirals), he ranked eighth in the UHL in scoring with 75 points. The point total was the fifth highest in IceHogs single season history.
The Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario native also set an IceHogs club record with a 13-game point streak, tying him for the longest streak this season in the UHL. During Mizzi's hot stretch from Jan. 10 to March 3, he netted 13g-16a-29pts. Squeezed into his scoring streak was a stint in Milwaukee where Mizzi totaled a pair of assists in eight games.
Like Cloutier, Mizzi set a club record for most player of the week awards by a position player. Mizzi was honored with the league's weekly award three times in '06-07. Other career IceHogs records held by Mizzi include most career power-play goals and short-handed goals.
The UHL's First Team All-Stars consist of St. Pierre, defensemen Guy Dupuis (Fort Wayne) and Philippe Plante (Muskegon) and forwards Todd Robinson (Muskegon) J.C. Ruid (Fort Wayne) and Kory Karlander (Kalamazoo). Joining Cloutier and Mizzi on the second team include defensemen Mario Larocque (Fort Wayne) and Chris Busby (Chicago) and forwards Nick Bootland (Kalamazoo) and Mike Watt (Muskegon).
Next Home Game: Sunday, April 22 vs. Quad City Mallards (if necessary). Game time is 5:05 p.m. If Quad City wins either Games 3 or 4 in Moline, Ill. the series will return to the Rockford MetroCentre for Game 5.
