Friday Night Battle in Burlington â Millrats in town
March 5, 2009 - Premier Basketball League (PBL)
Vermont Frost Heaves News Release
South Burlington, VT - The Manchester Millrats invade Burlington's Memorial Auditorium for a 7:05 p.m. Friday night showdown with the Frost Heaves. Manchester comes to town with an 8 game winning streak, having not lost during the month of February. Vermont is coming off their best performance of the season in their 126-72 drubbing of Quebec City last Sunday in Burlington.
All College students or Vermont Army National Guard members who show a valid ID at the door will be allowed to purchase tickets to the game at ½ off the regular admission price. This offer extends to all Guard family members as well. Doors open at 6:00 p.m.
Manchester is currently in first place in the Atlantic Division and will be looking to maintain their 3 game advantage. The Frost Heaves are in a battle for a wild card spot and currently hold the 2nd wild card in the league. At this point in the season all the games are critical to making the playoffs. Vermont will also be looking to defend their 23 game winning streak in Burlington. The Frost Heaves have never lost a game in Burlington's Memorial Auditorium and the old lady should be rocking with Friday Night's matchup.
With the PBL roster deadline approaching on March 9, 2009 both teams have made some last minute roster moves. The Frost Heaves have signed Larry Turner, a 6'11" Center who played his college ball at Tennessee State and in 2007 was the last player cut from the Los Angeles Lakers veteran's camp. Turner replaces Regis Koundjia on the Frost Heaves active roster.
The Millrats have released Kenyon Gamble and Aaron Spears and signed 6'11" Marc Mazur to the roster.
Friday Night's games will also be a celebration of High School basketball in Vermont, as the Frost Heaves will honor both the Rice Memorial High School and the Burlington High School Division 1 Boys basketball teams. As part of that celebration the Northfield Savings Bank Community All Star(s) will be Coach Paul Pecor of Rice and Coach Matt Johnson of Burlington. A brief ceremony honoring both teams' accomplishments will be held just prior to the tip-off, and then both Coaches will be shooting foul shots at halftime for charity.
Tickets for all Frost Heaves games are available at the Flynn Box Office in person, by calling 802-86-FLYNN or online at flynntix.org. Tickets for Barre games only are also available at Allen Lumber in Barre and First in Fitness in Montpelier. For more information visit www.vermontfrostheaves.com. The Frost Heaves are proud to partner with the Vermont State Employees Credit Union and the Vermont Army National Guard.
