Panthers players learn a different style of basketball
March 5, 2009 - Premier Basketball League (PBL) News Release
Detroit, Mich - Friday, February 27, Detroit Panthers appeared at a wheelchair basketball benefit game thinking they would just show off their ball handling and slam dunking skills during half time. However they learned at lot about kids playing basketball from wheelchairs. Panthers' Kyle Johnson, Chucky Bailey, Corey Gupton appeared at the start of the game and remained in a state of awe as the Sterling Heights Challengers showed them a different style of basketball. Instead of running up and down the court, these kids were making steals, rebounds, assists and three point shots over their opponents, the Tau Kappa Kappa Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., sponsors of the event, in wheelchairs.
The Challengers dazzled the crowd with their way of playing b-ball and the Panthers' players were no exception. "I truly was in awe at these athletics," state Gupton. "I had never witness anything like this before and I really enjoyed watching them play." The Panthers came in at halftime and gave the crowd another show while meeting and greeting the Challengers. The Challengers even assisted the Panthers as they threw them balls while the Panthers performed alley-oops and many other basketball feats. Afterwards the Panthers' players signed autographs and took pictures with the Challengers and those in the audience.
