Bellingham Slam News Release
BELLINGHAM, Wash. - The first triple-double in team history by guard Scott Freymond helped the Bellingham Slam defeat the Maywoodn Buzz, 139-105, in an American Basketball Association game Thursday night at Whatcom Pavilion.
Freymond completed the triple double with 27 points, 12 assists, and ten rebounds. All three statistical categories were season highs for Freymond.
The Buzz, despite playing their third game in three nights on their Washington state road trip, hung around for a good portion of the game before running out of gas. Maywood held the lead on five different occasions, the last being at the 7:08 mark of the second quarter. After taking the lead for good ten seconds later, at 46-44 on a Jared Stevenson three-pointer, the Slam stretched their lead to eight before Maywood's Terrell Hendricks nailed a three pointer with two seconds left in the quarter to make the halftime score 65-60 in favor of Bellingham.
The Slam took full control of the game in the third quarter, outscoring the Buzz 35-14 in the period, to build a 100-74 advantage going into the final frame.
In the fourth quarter, Bellingham stretched their lead to 44 before Maywood closed the game with a 15-5 run in the final two minutes.
Freymond was joined by Slam guard Brandon Hartley as the game's scoring leaders with 27 points apiece.
Hendricks led five Buzz players in double figures with 23 points.
The Slam swept the season series with Carson, three games to none. The Slam won on Tuesday against the Buzz in a much closer contest, and also earned a 20-point victory against the Buzz on the road in December.
The Slam's next action takes place at home on Tuesday, Jan. 23 against the Gallup Outlaws. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. at Whatcom Pavilion.
