Fresno HeatWave names head coach

Fresno, CA. Reggie Davis, owner of the ABA's Fresno HeatWave today announced the signing of Johnny Moore as Head Coach. Moore played a total of 10 years in the NBA, all of them with the San Antonio Spurs, during which he led the NBA in assists in the 1981-82 season averaging 9.6apg. He finished his career as the all-time assist leader in Spurs' history handing out 3,865 assists. He is one of only four players to have his jersey retired in Spurs' histor along with greats such as George Gervin, David Robinson and James Silas. More recently, in 2003, Moore was named to Sports Illustrated 1st team All San Antonio Spurs team. According to Davis, "Johnny will be a great addition to the HeatWave organization and we are honored to have him, not only as Head Coach, but also for his community relations abilities, which are very important to our organization."

Moore played 4 seasons at the University of Texas and was a member of the 1978 NIT Championship team and was named tournament MVP. He has coached at several levels and has several championship titles, including 2 World Championship rings as a member of the Spurs. He joined the Spurs in 1993 as a community relation's representative and has spoken at numerous schools, churches and charities. He is Founder and Director of Impact Community Center in Altoona, PA, an organization created to provide encouragement to underprivileged athletes. Moore added, "Fresno is a wonderful community; its citizens deserve a quality organization both on and off the court. We want to make Fresno proud of our team by the things we do within the community and the effort we make on the court. Fresno will not be disappointed."
