
Fresh Wins Season Opener Against West Texas Whirlwinds

(Odessa, TX ) - Fresh's first season game resulted as a win over the American Basketball Association's ( ABA ) West Texas Whirlwinds in Odessa, Texas. The Whirlwinds held the ABA season opener with North Texas Fresh prevailing in the end with a 111-101 victory.
The Fresh started the game with great intensity. Shots taken continued to fall as the Fresh ended the first half with a 55-44 lead. Ralph Johnson and Titus Byrd provided a definite spark for the Fresh in the first half as Johnson tallied8 points, 6 rebounds, and Byrd 6 points, 3 assists along with 2 steals by half's end.
"We had a solid first half and I'm proud of that," said Jay Bowdy, Owner/CEO of North Texas Fresh. "Overall we played well as a team and look forward to improving each game. We have a lot of ability and will definitely prove over time we will be a force to reckon with in the Southeast Division and ABA."
The Fresh raised the eleven point half-time lead by the start of fourth to a 20 point deficit. The Fresh had a 29 point lead at one point in the second half. The Whirlwinds would not go quietly on their home floor as they clawed their way back late in the fourth quarter. North Texas Fresh proved to be a bit too powerful for the 23rd ranked team in the ABA Power Rankings, West Texas Whirlwinds.
Robert Taylor was named Game MVP as he led the Fresh with 18 points and 12 rebounds. "We played good cohesive team basketball which made my job as an individual player easy," said Taylor. "This was a great start for our season and good win for the team."
J.R. Duffey was another Fresh player that came up big Saturday night with 16 points and 11 rebounds.Four forwards from the Fresh produced double doubles as Lewis Lee contributed with 11 points and 10 reboundswith Johnson also finishing with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Several players contributed in producing the win including Lashon Sheffield with 13points 11 assists, Titus Byrd 12 points5 steals, Josh Washington 11 points 5 rebounds, Brandon Perry 7 points 3 steals, Maurice Williams 6 points 5 rebounds, A'Daeron Duncan 4 points 7 rebounds4 blocks 2 steals, and Dave Smith 3 points 4 assists 2 steals.
