Fresh to P.O.W.E.R. U.P! with Local School Districts

North Texas Fresh News Release


Fort Worth - Dallas - More than 5 local school districts with a total of more than will be looked at for teaming up with the ABA's North Texas Fresh to provide a boost in the team's local community in addresses important social issues such as education, youth and family development, and health and wellness.

The P.O.W.E.R. U.P! (Plan On Winning with Education, Responsibility, Unity, and Promise) program will cap off as a year-long schedule of community service events benefiting hundreds of North Texas area schools. Volunteers will include North Texas Fresh Basketball players, coaches and staff encouraging students to take education seriously.

As part of the North Texas Fresh Basketball & Foundation mission to demonstrate positive leadership in social responsibility, NTF will set plans on doing what the NBA Care program does, but more often. "Staying In School Because It's Cool," "Bully's Don't Rule," and "Readers can Achieve" are some of the things NTF will be doing in supporting education.

"We as a basketball franchise value what the NBA does but regardless if they involved themselves in school or not we would be doing anyways, stated Jay Bowdy C.E.O. of North Texas Fresh. "The difference it makes to those students and teachers to see professional athletes care for the importance of education is mind - blowing and if a visit from us can make a difference in only one students life then at least we made a difference."

Bowdy is also a graduate student in Education Leadership Policy and Studies.

NTF is set to do the P.O.W.E.R. U.P. Brunch on September 29, 2010 with a selection of surrounding Independent School Districts to discuss more in - depth on ways to involve more positive student interaction, higher participation from students, and ways to reward students through extracurricular activities while encouraging family involvement.

The Brookside Center in Hurst, TX is the facility that will host 1st annual event and the time is from 3 p.m. - 5 p.m. School district in Tarrant, Dallas, and Denton county along with City Managers and Council are expected to be in attendance as well.

The North Texas Fresh Foundation serves to improve lives, strengthen communities, and foster engagement through service and volunteering.
