Fresh Question Game Result

December 8, 2009 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
North Texas Fresh News Release

FORT WORTH - After Saturday's game, Owner/CEO and Head Coach Jay Bowdy addressed the North Texas Fresh media that he felt some things didn't go the way they should have on the court, and he was right! It concerned the fact that too many mistakes were made by the game clock operator, but nothing as serious as seeing three extra points put on the scoreboard for the Generals.

In Saturday's first quarter, with 4:11 left on the clock, #32 Jonathan Hopkins was called for a travel on a three point shot. The shot went in but, of course, was waived due to the traveling infraction; keeping the score at a dead - even 14 - 14. With the ball in North Texas Fresh possession, #12 Maurice Williams scored on a running jumper with 3:56 remaining in the same quarter. Instead of the score showing 16 - 14 with North Texas Fresh being up, it was 17 - 16 Dallas Generals up.

"I couldn't even believe it when I seen it on film," stated Assistant Coach Lisa Bowdy. "We heard through the course of the game fans saying that the score wasn't right but we were focused on the game and hoping that the ABA Refs do their job in making sure those types of things be corrected. We continued watching the film to make sure that the points were never taken back off and also checked to see if there was any other major point miscues; but it wasn't. I'm sure the Dallas Generals staff will have no problem finding the error but we're just glad we found it and now can rejoice in being undefeated!"

Dallas Generals final score showed 103 - 101 with the North Texas Fresh losing, but this evidence will change the score to the corrected 101 - 100 victory for the Fresh. This will mark the Fresh as one of the only two undefeated teams left in the ABA Southwest Division with a 3 - 0 start.

"It's amazing to see how one mistake can cause the change of the game," stated Owner/CEO Jay Bowdy. "The Dallas Generals have a phenomenal team and gave us a run for our money. At the same time we did what we were suppose to do and that was to come in and steal their home opener and now it is evident that we accomplished that."

Tyrone Rayson was a force for the Dallas Generals, but J.R. Duffey was the game changer for the Fresh; leading all scorers with an incredible 27 points, 11 rebounds, and 2 steals. Duffey, a North Crowley graduate, took the game into his hands with 11 fourth quarter points to keep the Fresh in the game.

"Duffey is just a type of player that you have to love having on your team, stated Bowdy. "There is no scouting report to slow him down offensively and his unselfish play is what makes him one of the top ABA forwards this year. I wouldn't be surprised to see him selected as one of the All - Stars and a chance to be an All - ABA Selection. " Along with Duffey's offensive explosion came LaShon Sheffileld's franchise record-breaking defensive performance; tallying a phenomenal 8 steals to go along with 17 points and 12 assist on the night.

"He is a wonderful player who has the ability to completely control the game," stated Assistant Coach Aaron Evans. "There isn't a point guard on any team that can stop him on the offense with his versatility. That's one guy that is flat - out irreplaceable."

The North Texas Fresh hung their heads after the unofficial score showed, as they were in belief that they had received their 1st loss of their inaugural season. Now the Fresh can enjoy a great victory and a chance to move up to the Top 5 ABA Power Rankings this week.

The North Texas Fresh will be facing the Dallas Generals at the Fresh's next home game December 16, 2009 at 7 p.m. located at Brewer H.S. This will be the second meeting between the two franchises in the Battle of the best in the DFW Metroplex.
