February 26, 2019 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Potomac Nationals News Release
Fredericksburg, VA - Sunday afternoon, Fredericksburg Baseball, along with more than 1,000 fans of baseball in Fredericksburg, held a ceremonial groundbreaking for the team's state-of-the-art, $35 million facility, which is set to open up in April of 2020.
Along with a huge crowd and raucous baseball environment, Fredericksburg Baseball celebrated those who came together to make the stadium project a reality. Included in the event were Fredericksburg's mayor, Mary Katherine Greenlaw, other dignitaries, sponsors, and community supporters. In addition to those recognized from the Fredericksburg community, Washington Nationals Director of Player Development, Mark Scialabba, and Carolina League President, Geoff Lassiter, were in attendance.
Team President Lani Silber Weiss summed up the team's reaction. "The excitement and attendance from the community was beyond our wildest expectations. The thrill of watching hundreds of fans stream into the event and share their enthusiasm for baseball in the 'burg was amazing to watch. We just can't wait for everyone to attend our first game at the new ballpark in April 2020."
In addition to the groundbreaking event, Sunday marked another milestone for the team's Founders Club season ticket base. More than 1,200 reservations had been placed prior to Sunday for this Club, which allows fans to be the first to select their full-season tickets for the new stadium. During the event, more than 200 additional reservations were placed, which brought the total seats reservations thus far to nearly 1,500.
Given the long lines to sign-up and continued demand to join the Club, the organization is keeping Founders Club reservations open through Friday, March 1st. If fans have not yet joined but are interested, they can get more information by visiting www.fredericksburgbaseball.com. where they can download the reservation form, by calling 703-590-2311, or e-mailing fxbgfoundersclub@potomacnationals.com.
During the event, Bryan Holland, the team's General Manager for Sales recognized the "Founders Five" who were the first five fans to sign up for the Club back in early December. Holland commented: "It was great to see the Founders Five again and welcome another 200 fans into the Club on Sunday. We look forward to welcoming more members, and seeing the Founders Club membership at the ballpark next year."
Each member of the Founders Five, along with all other Founders Club members in attendance, received the Founders Club commemorative challenge coin.
The challenge coin, produced by Coins for Anything of Spotsylvania, is the first of many benefits that Fredericksburg Baseball will provide to Founders Club members, and all members (including new members that sign up this week) will receive the coin in addition to these other benefits.
