Frederick Keys News Release
For the second consecutive night the Keys offense was left looking for answers. Last night the Keys were hitless into the eighth inning in a 2-1 loss. Tonight, the Keys threatened early but failed to push a run across, falling to Kinston 1-0 at Grainger Stadium.
With one run in the first 18 innings of the series the Keys have now dropped four out of five games.
Frederick got a stellar return from 2010 Key Ryan Berry who is battling back from a shoulder injury. Berry worked four shutout innings in his Carolina League return allowing only three hits.
The Keys also had chances to give Berry the lead. In the third inning C Brian Ward doubled to left and then went to third base on LF Bobby Stevens' bunt single. DH Mike Rooney then flied out to center field but Ward tagged and was thrown out at the plate for the second out of the inning. RF Steve Bumbry popped out to end the threat.
In the fourth inning with one down SS Manny Machado laced a double over RF Bo Greenwell's head. With two men on and two down, 3B Dale Mollenhauer lined a ball off the glove of Indians 2B Casey Frawley. Machado was sent home but Frawley recovered and threw him out with ease at the plate.
Kinston would break the ice in the eighth inning. With a runner at first base and two outs Greenwell hit a hard groundball down the right field line. The runner, Jordan Casas raced around to score just ahead of the tag. It would be the game's only run.
Reliever Kenny Moreland was also outstanding with three scoreless innings. RHP Randy Henry allowed the run to fall to 0-3 in eight outings with the Keys.
The Keys continue its final road trip of the 2011 regular season Thursday, September 1st at 6:30 p.m. with LHP Rick Zagone getting the call. Coverage will begin 20-minutes prior to first pitch on 1450-AM The Source and wthu.org.
Playoff tickets are on-sale for the Northern Division Championship Series which starts at Harry Grove Stadium Wednesday, September 7th at 7:00 p.m. Fireworks will follow the September 8th playoff game at Harry Grove Stadium!
