(Mississippi Braves)
PEARL, MS - Jesse Franklin V homered three times, Luke Waddell hit a grand slam, and the Mississippi Braves (34-37) topped the Biloxi Shuckers (36-37) 11-5 on Saturday night at MGM Park.
The M-Braves smacked it all over the yard, smashing five home runs and 14 hits. Franklin V notched the fourth three-homer game in club history, and Waddell's grand slam was his second and the M-Braves fifth this season. Justin Dean set a club record with four stolen bases, and the M-Braves stole eight bags in the game.
The M-Braves got started right away. Dean reached on an infield single, and Waddell walked. Dean stole second base, and both runners advanced on a double steal. Then, Cade Bunnell scored Dean on a groundout for the first run of the game. Tyler Tolve ripped a two-run home run out to right field to make it 3-0. Franklin capped off a four-run inning with a solo shot to left center.
Tolve's third home run increased his on-base streak to 20 games, the club's longest streak of the season.
Dean stole his fourth base by the second inning, swiping third base for the second time. The outfielder went 1-for-2 with three walks. Dean has seven stolen bases in the series, including three stolen bags on Tuesday night.
Biloxi homered twice in the third inning and tied the game at 4-4 by the end of the third. The M-Braves responded with a five-run fourth inning.
After the M-Braves loaded the bases, Waddell blasted an opposite-field grand slam to make it 8-4. Waddell hit his second grand slam of the season after hitting one in Pensacola on June 16. Franklin smashed a solo homer to right to make it 9-4.
Waddell reached base four times, going 2-for-4 with a home run, two walks and two RBI. Landon Stephens and Jacob Pearson each finished with a multi-hit game.
Franklin's third home run came in the eighth. The outfield lifted a deep fly ball past right field to score two more runs and make it 11-5. Franklin finished 4-for-4 with three home runs, four RBI and two stolen bases in his first career three-homer game and the fourth in M-Braves history. Greyson Jenista had a three-homer game at Biloxi on September 9, 2021.
The fifth game of the series is on Saturday at MGM Park. RHP Tanner Gordon (3-3, 3.09) will pitch for Mississippi while RHP Cristian Mejias (4-5, 6.28) will start for Biloxi. The first pitch is at 5:05 pm CT, with coverage starting 15 minutes before on 102.1 The Box, First Pitch App, and Bally Live.
