Fresno FC News Release

FRESNO, Calif - Back on its home pitch, Fresno FC delivered a massive result as the Foxes took down Saint Louis FC, 1-0, in front of 4,951 fans at Chukchansi Park on Saturday night.

With the win, Fresno FC improves to (8W-9D-9L) in a tie for ninth-place with Swope Park Rangers (9-9-6) at 33 points, and just one point behind eighth-place San Antonio FC as the race for the USL Cup Playoffs heats up.

Zachary Ellis-Hayden sent the stadium into an uproar at the 33rd minute, knuckling a shot off the outside of his right foot that pinged off the top left corner and into the back of the net for the ultimate game-winner. The result ended Fresno FC's four-match winless streak and cut Saint Louis FC's win streak at four games.

The Foxes had an early chance as Rony Argueta was fouled by Corey Hertzog in the second minute to set up a direct free kick for Juan Pablo Caffa. His shot from 30 yards out bent over the wall but it bounced off the top of the crossbar.

It took another brush of the woodwork - this one taking a proper deflection into the back of the net for the Zorros to go in front. At the 37th minute, Danny Barrera dribbled out down the right and into the corner, before coming back to the top of the box where he passed it off to Ellis-Hayden. Ellis-Hayden took two touches before firing his first career goal as a Zorro, while Barrera recorded his third assist of the regular season.

Saint Louis FC threatened at the 28th minute when Wal Fall fired one from the top of the 18, only to see goalkeeper Kyle Reynish make the low dive for the block. The ball bounced back into play to Albert Dikwa who tried to head in the goal, only to see Reynish extend with a one-handed save for the double stop. The second effort was extra, however, as the linesman flagged Dikwa offside.

With the lead, the Foxes kept pressing, earning an opportunity at the 43rd minute when Jemal Johnson headed a pass to Christian Chaney on the outside of the box, but his low shot was blocked by Tomas Gomez. Chaney had a string of chances after halftime, first at the 52nd minute when he tapped a ball to himself and kicked it on the volley only to see it punched away by Gomez.

On the other end of the pitch, Reynish made another big save at the 59th minute, pushing away the direct free-kick shot from Dikwa. Reynish finished with three saves as he and the Foxes' backline picked up their sixth clean sheet together.

Los Zorros hit the road in Week 24, visiting Las Vegas Lights FC on Saturday, August 29 at Cashman Field. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. and the match will be televised on CW 59 and ESPN Plus. Los Zorros return to Chukchansi Park the following week, hosting Reno 1868 FC on September 1st at Chukchansi Park. Tickets are on sale now and available for purchase at the stadium box office and online at tickets.fresnofc.com.
