Sacramento Republic FC News Release
SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Four first-half goals from the visitors handed Sacramento Republic FC just their second home loss of the season on Saturday night.
Los Dos opened the scoring in the seventh minute when midfielder Miguel Aguilar found space down the right wing before whipping in a left-footed shot past a diving attempt from Josh Cohen and into the top corner of the net at the far post.
The visitors were awarded a penalty kick in the 20th minute when Justin Schmidt tackled Frank Lopez inside the box. Forward Ethan Zubak slotted the penalty kick into the back of the net to double Los Angeles' lead.
Jean Engola added a third for Los Dos in the 25th minute from a set piece. Geoffrey Acheampong sent a free kick into the box as Zubak flicked the ball with his backheel to Engola. The defender powered home the strike into the side of the net to extend his side's lead to three goals. Frank Lopez added a fourth in the 41st minute and Los Dos went to halftime with a 4-0 lead over Sacramento.
Republic FC would pull one back in the 56th minute thanks to an own goal from the visitors. Villyan Bijev sent a low, powerful cross into the box that John Requejo deflected past LA keeper Brian Sylvestre and into the net to cut the deficit. However, the LA Galaxy II would carry that lead all the way to victory and take all three points from their visit to Sacramento.
Sacramento will look to bounce back when travel to Nevada to take on rivals Reno 1868 FC on Saturday, August 25. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. and the match will be broadcast live on KQCA My58, Estrella TV and ESPN+.
