Corpus Christi Hammerheads News Release
CORPUS CHRISTI - The Hammerheads of the Intense Football League have come to an agreement with Fox Sports Radio 1070 AM to broadcast each of the team's 14 regular season games in 2008, team owner Chad Dittman said.
The Hammerheads' 2007 season and the playoffs were carried on the Alice radio station. During the last year, with its parent company, Claro Communications of Corpus Christi, 1070 AM increased its signal throughout the Coastal Bend. The increased signal will help carry the Hammerheads into more households this season, station officials said.
Also, play-by-player announcer Bob Pena and Pete Garcia are returning to the broadcast booth for the Hammerheads this season.
Corpus Christi begins its 2008 season Saturday, March 15, here at home at Citgo Field in the Central Pavilion Arena at the Richard M. Borchard Fairgrounds in Robstown against the San Angelo Stampede Express. Kickoff is set for 6:05 p.m.
"This is a partnership that we are very happy with," Fox Sports Radio 1070 AM general manager Bobby Pena said. "FSR 1070 AM is growing in popularity along with Hammerhead football here in the Coastal Bend. Chad Dittman and his organization are first class and put out a great product with the Hammerhead radio team. The fit is right for Fox Sports and our listeners."
Pena said the Hammerheads compliment the stations already strong line-up, which includes San Antonio Spurs basketball.
The Hammerheads' March 15 game is also the start of a three-game homestand, which also includes the Alaska Wild and Fairbanks. The stay at home ends with Corpus Christi traveling to Frisco April 13. The Hammerheads knocked the Thunder out of the IFL playoffs last season in a heated contest.
The 2008 schedule has a five-game road-stretch in which Corpus Christi will play at Odessa, Fairbanks, Alaska, CenTex and Katy between May 10 and June 14. In all, the Hammerheads have a 14-game schedule with an even number of home and road games.
The Hammerheads were 12-2 last season and played in the Intense Bowl III. Corpus Christi lost to Louisiana in the championship game in August. Louisiana was the only team to beat Corpus Christi in 2007. The Hammerheads and Swashbucklers will renew their rivalry this season here at home on June 28.
