Fox Sports Net to televise 2005 ArenaCup

June 16, 2005 - arenafootball2 (af2) News Release

CHICAGO - The first-ever neutral site championship game in arenafootball2 (af2) history will be nationally televised, live on Fox Sports Net (FSN), the af2 league office announced today. Set for Saturday, August 27, the 2005 ArenaCup will be played at the CenturyTel Center in Bossier City, Louisiana.

"Having our national championship game televised live by Fox makes a statement about our game, our teams, and the cities of Shreveport and Bossier," said af2 President Jerry Kurz. "It tells the nation that this game being played in this community is worthy of the national attention this telecast will bring.

"When our Board voted unanimously for a neutral site ArenaCup, they were all excited to receive the invitation from Bossier-Shreveport to host ArenaCup6," added Kurz. "This area's amazing success through the years at establishing and maintaining a neutral site, nationally televised football game - The Independence Bowl - let us know that the community was able to put on a great show."

Drawing directly from Independence Bowl successes in the past, Kurz named two former Independence Bowl Chairpersons as Co-Chairs of the 2005 ArenaCup. In addition, he tapped two other Independence Bowl Chairmen to join the 2005 ArenaCup committee. Sandy Cimino and Randy James will co-chair the August event and Ken Antee and Rick Holland will serve on the committee.

"There is no reason to re-invent the wheel in this case." said Kurz. "These four bring a wealth of experience to our effort."

The 2005 ArenaCup game will cap off a week of local events including an awards banquet, a golf tournament, and a Fan Fest. Details of these events will be released in the coming weeks.
