
Fowles Earns Third Eastern Conference Player of the Month Award

CHICAGO, September 17, 2013 - Chicago Sky center Sylvia Fowles has been named the WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Month for September, the WNBA announced Tuesday. This is the third consecutive Player of the Month for Fowles who also earned the honor for the months of July and August.
Throughout September, Fowles earned individual honors and assisted the team in achieving historical marks. Fowles averaged 11.6 rebounds and 56.9% shooting from the field to top the league during the month. In her five game appearances she also average 15.6 points.
Over the course of the month, Fowles had three double-double games. She totaled 17 season and 81 career double-doubles to end the 2013 regular season. She is now tied with Yolanda Griffith for third all-time in career double-doubles. After achieving her 22nd career 15-plus rebound game in the Sky's win over the second ranked Atlanta Dream on September 13, Fowles made the WNBA all-time list once again. Her achievement in this category puts her at a tie for third all-time with Cheryl Ford.
On September 6, Fowles hit her 1,000th career field goal after a game leading 23-point performance against the Indiana Fever. She also contributed four of the team's nine blocked shots to help the Sky break their single season record. On September 8, Fowles' block three shots, helping push the Sky to over 200 blocks this season becoming only the second team in WNBA history to accomplish this feat.
The Sky's season finale against the Minnesota Lynx was Fowles' 166th game with the Chicago Sky. She becomes the franchise's all-time leader in games played, surpassing Jia Perkins who played 165 games from 2006-2010.
Maya Moore from the Minnesota Lynx was named WNBA Western Conference Player of the Month for September.
The Sky play the reigning WNBA Champions, the Indiana Fever on Friday, September 20 for the first game of the Eastern Conference Semifinals. The 6 p.m. home game will air on NBA TV.. Game two of the series will take place on Sunday, September 22 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. The 2 p.m. game will air nationally on ESPN2.
