
Fourth Quarter Run Lifts Florida Past Huntsville, 87-82

FORT MYERS, Fla., March 22 - What looked like a fourth quarter collapse turned into triumph as the Florida Flame defeated the Huntsville Flight 87-82 at Germain Arena. Carl English led all scorers with 22 points as the Flame (13-28) won their fourth out of their previous six games. Huntsville (21-19) was paced by Cedric Henderson's 15 points while Rodney Bias recorded a double-double with 11 points and a game high 22 rebounds.
Florida and Huntsville played back-and-forth basketball in the first half as the Flame held a 50-49 halftime lead. Carl English led the way scoring 13 points in the half for Florida as the Flame shot 51-percent from the floor.
The third period belonged to the Flame as they held Huntsville to 26-percent shooting and forced eight turnovers. Florida pushed their lead to six points at 71-65 at the end of the third.
The wild fourth quarter started out with Florida beginning the period on a 5-0 run to gain an 11 point lead at the 9:57 mark, their largest of the game. But Huntsville fought right back, scoring the next 17 points on a run of their own. Covering six and half minutes, Huntsville connected on eight of nine from the floor all while holding the Flame scoreless and gained a six point lead at 82-76 at the 3:07 mark.
Florida refused to go away, ending the game on a run of their own. Covering the final three minutes, the Flame scored 11 straight points, sparked by back-to-back three pointers by Darius Rice and Carl English, and ended the game with the five point victory.
Darius Rice scored 19 points (including 11 in the fourth quarter) and Kirk Haston added 11 for the Flame.
Austin Nichols and Antoine Pettway each added 14 points for Huntsville.
The two teams will face each other again on Thursday at Germain Arena. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
