Deb Harper to Be Honored as Saturday's RSL/American Express "Hero Among Us"
Real Salt Lake and American Express are proud to recognize Deb Harper as this Saturday's recipient of the "Heroes Among Us" honor. When ever the word "charity" is mentioned, you can expect Ms. Harper will be there to volunteer. She is a member of the Board for the Utah-based nonprofit organization Heart2Home, which specializes in providing home renovations to families in special circumstances or with dire needs. In her position, Harper has been instrumental in recruiting volunteers - both friends and strangers - to help work on the Heart2Home projects. In 2008, through her work with the "Soccer Unites Utah" charity, Deb was an instrumental force in putting together a series of DKMS-sponsored bone marrow donation drives on behalf of Marcia Williams, wife of RSL midfielder Andy Williams, and, with her assistance, awareness of the ease of bone marrow donations spread quickly throughout the soccer community.
Despite the loss of her husband in September, Harper has not stopped striving to serve and help others. Now a single mother raising three children, the youngest of whom is autistic, Deb also runs the family business, Harper Concrete, and treats her employees as if they were family. For her compassion, charity, and service despite her own personal travails, RSL and American Express are proud to recognize Deb Harper as a "Hero Among Us."
