June 3, 2011 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Sporting Kansas City News Release
Sporting Kansas City's 10-game road trip to start the 2011 season will come to an end on Saturday with a visit to Toronto FC. Toronto FC (2-5-6) are currently in seventh place in the Eastern Conference, having earned a total of 12 points through 13 matches so far this season.
Sporting Kansas City lead the all-time series with Toronto FC with a record of 4-3-3 since the series began in 2007. Kansas City's record when visiting Toronto is 1-2-2, with the lone win coming in their first-ever trip to BMO Field in 2007. Last season, Sporting Kansas City took four points from a possible six in two regular season meetings with Toronto, including a 1-0 win at CommunityAmerica Ballpark on July 31st.
Sporting Kansas City will be missing several key players due to national team commitments on Saturday. Stephane Auvray, Shavar Thomas and Roger Espinoza have all joined up with their respective national sides for the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup, which begins on Sunday. Forward Kei Kamara is also unavailable due to his participation in an African Cup of Nations qualifier for Sierra Leone on Saturday against Niger. Toronto FC face a host of selection problems all their own, as Julian de Guzman, Joao Plata and Dicoy Williams will all miss out due to international duty. This week also saw centerback Adrian Cann's season come to an end, as he suffered a torn ACL in training. Toronto FC enter Saturday's contest at BMO Field coming off a 6-2 loss to the Philadelphia Union at home last weekend. The Union jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead, saw the gapclose to 3-2 at the start of the second half, and then hit Toronto FC for three more in the highest scoring match of the 2011 MLS regular season. KSMO-TV will again air a 30-minute pre-game show hosted by play-by-play announcer Callum Williams and guest color commentator Kristian Jack, in addition to their weekly soccer show, 'Off the Pitch' with Sporting Kansas City, on Sunday's at 9:30 p.m. CT.
