Wenatchee Wild News Release
WENATCHEE, Wash. - Four Wenatchee Wild alumni are set to participate in the NCAA Tournament this weekend hoping to earn a trip to next month's Frozen Four in Tampa, Fla., for the chance to win a national championship.
The Air Force Falcons, whose roster consists of Wild alumni Adam McKenzie, Ryan Timar and Mitch Torrel, reached the NCAA Tournament by winning the Atlantic Hockey Association Tournament.
Ranked No. 16 in the country, the Falcons have a difficult matchup in the first round of the Northeast Regional against the Boston College Eagles, who are the tournament's No. 1 seed. The game, which will be televised live on ESPNU HD, is at the DCU Center in Worcester, Mass., on Saturday at 1:05 p.m. (PST). The winner will play in the regional final Sunday at 5:05 p.m. (PST). That game will also be carried live on ESPNU HD.
Armand de Swardt and the Cornell University Big Reds reached the NCAA Tournament with a third-place finish in the ECAC Hockey tournament. de Swardt played a big role in the Big Reds reaching the NCAA Tournament when he notched the primary assist on a double overtime game-winner against Dartmouth in the first game of the ECAC Hockey quarterfinal series last weekend.
The Big Reds will face Michigan, the top seed in the Midwest Regional semifinal at 6 p.m. (PST) Friday. The winner will play in the regional final Saturday at 6 p.m. (PST). Both games can be seen live on ESPNU HD.
All four alumni participating in this year's NCAA Tournament were part of the Wild team that won the Presidents' Trophy and competed in the Robertson Cup Championship Tournament at the Town Toyota Center in 2010. In addition, McKenzie, Timar and Torrel took part in the first-ever college hockey game in Wenatchee earlier this season between Air Force and Simon Fraser University.
