Four Tomahawks Named to NAHL Top Prospects Tournament
January 28, 2015 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Johnstown Tomahawks News Release
The Johnstown Tomahawks are proud to announce that forwards Trevor Recktenwald, Casey Linkenheld, and Joe Drabin have been named to the North Division team for the 2015 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament. Goaltender Ryan Bednard will also participate in the tournament, suiting up for the NAHL Selects team.
The showcase, which will be held February 23-24 in Ann Arbor, Mich., is one of the most highly-scouted events of the season. Each of the division teams and the Selects team will participate in two showcase games.
Through 37 games this season, Recktenwald has 30 points (12 goals, 18 assists), surpassing his numbers from last season. Recktenwald finished the 2013-14 season with 21 points (10 goals, 11 assists) in 50 games.
"Trevor has really taken a step forward after a good introductory season into the league. He has taken advantage of his assets and found a way to play that truly fits his make-up," said Tomahawks head coach Mile Letizia.
Linkenheld has been an important part of the Tomahawks offense, scoring at least one point in 19 of the 32 games he has played in this season. Linkenheld has 12 points (8 goals, 4 assists) in his last 10 games, including points in the last four games.
"Casey has emerged as the offensive catalyst that we envisioned him being when we drafted him. His offensive IQ is very high and he really seems to know where to be in the offensive zone," said Letizia.
Drabin leads the Tomahawks with 20 assists in 37 games. His eight points in the last 10 games have all been assists, and he has more multi-assist games (5) than multi-goal games (2).
"Joe has excelled playing his game. He is a power forward by trade, but can also make plays and find the back of the net," said Letizia.
Bednard will be one of two goaltenders for the NAHL Selects team, made up of players who have made college commitments. He has been the workhorse for the Tomahawks this season, going 11-13-3 in 27 appearances this season. Bednard committed to Bowling Green earlier this season, and he ranks #15 on the NHL Central Scouting 2015 Mid-Term Rankings.
"In his first season, Ryan has come along and demonstrated his ability to be a top goaltender in this league. He has been chosen as a solid NHL goaltending prospect for the upcoming draft, and I am excited to see how he performs at the Top Prospects Tournament," said Letizia.
The Tomahawks visit the Springfield Jr. Blues, starting Thursday night at 8:05 p.m. The team returns home Feb. 12 to take on Keystone at 10:30 a.m. For more information, visit www.johnstowntomahawks.com or call 814-536-GOAL (4625).
